CAR T-cell therapy, or simply CAR T, adapts T cells from your immune system to fight cancer. It’s also a type of immunotherapy. CAR stands for Chimeric Antigen Receptor.
The entire treatment process has many steps over several weeks, but treatment with CAR T generally happens once. CAR T is given as an infusion.
CAR T may be an option for some blood cancers, if:
- one or more of your treatment(s) did not work, or
- your cancer returned
